This past year paid a guide up in Maine to learn lead core trolling, fishing in average of fifty feet bottom trolling 18 lb beyond braid lead core fishing out around five colors catching salmon and smallmouth without down riggers and honestly I caught so many fish I lost count of smallmouth but the salmon was what really enjoyed I had an over 5 lb to the boat and jumped and threw the hook best day ever, anyone have a real idea on a saw actual sink rates I’m interested

Once I seen an ad on Facebook last year, I knew this was the line I wanted to change to. As a pro walleye angler I need piece of mind with my lines out while trolling for walleye. The last line I used I had lots of break offs, since I changed to beyond braid not one break off. Also smooth casting line as well, love using this line for casting cranks and jigging. And the Leadcore, superb line!!!! Great for the summertime walleyes!!!! every fishermen should have spools of beyond braid in their boats.

The color changes every 10 yards, so you count colors as you let line out and know exactly how much is deployed. When a rod fires, you count back and repeat that depth on the next pass instead of guessing. That is the whole reason lead core exists.
Depth depends on trolling speed, lure, and how much line is out, which is exactly why the colors are there. Let out one color at a time until you find fish, then count the same number of colors on every pass. Faster speed and a lighter lure means shallower, slower and heavier means deeper.
Eight strands of PE braid woven around a lead core center. The braid gives you the strength and abrasion resistance to troll around rock and debris, and the lead gives you the density to get down and hold a depth without adding weight to your rig.
It comes in 12lb, 18lb, 27lb, 36lb on 100 Yards, 200 Yards. Lighter tests get down easier for walleye and trout, heavier tests handle stripers, big lakers, and anything that will run you into structure. Most anglers run 100 yards on a dedicated trolling reel.
Yes. Run 20 to 30 feet of fluorocarbon or mono between the lead core and your lure so the fish never sees the colored line, and so you have some stretch between a hard-charging fish and a no-stretch main line. Use an FG or double uni to connect them.
Braid is slick enough to spin on a bare spool. Either lay down a short mono or fluoro backing and join it with an FG or double uni knot, or wrap a strip of electrical tape around the bare arbor first. Then spool under steady tension with the line coming off the filler spool the same direction it goes onto your reel, which is what keeps wind knots from showing up on your first cast.
Much thinner at the same strength, usually right around half the diameter. That is the whole point: you pack far more line onto the same reel, you cut through wind instead of ballooning in it, and you cast noticeably further. No. Modern guide inserts handle braid without any trouble. What actually shreds line is a guide insert that is already chipped or cracked. Run a cotton swab around the inside of each guide once a season, and if it snags a fiber, replace that guide before it costs you a fish.
Not with nail clippers, and not with a knife. Braid is a PE fiber that frays and rolls away from a dull edge instead of cutting, so you end up with a mashed end that will not pass through a knot cleanly. Use a dedicated braid scissor with serrated blades for a square cut, and your knots will seat right the first time.
Braid outlasts mono by a wide margin, so most anglers get multiple seasons out of one spool. The last stretch of line takes nearly all the abuse, so before you replace the whole thing, strip off the first 20 to 30 yards and retie. When the line starts feeling fuzzy well down the spool, or you have lost enough to hurt your capacity, it is time. You can also pull the line off, reverse it end for end, and respool to get a full second life out of it.
