Yes, both. The spooler holds the line spool with tension while you crank, which is what keeps twist out of a spinning reel and keeps braid packed tight on a baitcaster.
Nearly all of them, including our 300, 500, 1000, and 2000 yard spools. The heavy duty base clip grabs almost any table, counter, or 2x4, and the whole thing breaks down small enough to travel.
Tighten the tension spring, then run the line through a damp rag or between two fingers as you crank. Thin diameter braid needs more pressure than mono to bed down. Loose braid on the spool is the number one cause of wind knots later.
If your spool is not braid-ready, yes. Braid will slip on a bare arbor. Put down a short mono backing or a strip of electrical tape on the arbor first, then tie your braid to that.
Stop about an eighth of an inch below the lip of the spool. Overfilling is what causes loops jumping off the spool and the wind knots people blame on the line.

Use better material
I was skeptical about this product simply because of how was taught to spoil a spinning reel by my grandpa. Gone are the days of laying the spool of line label up and bringing my finger from applying pressure. This eliminates all that. If you don’t have one you need to get one.

Great product, easy to use and works perfectly. Seams sturdy enough but maybe the fastening design can be looked at for future models? The spring/washer set up could pose an issue if you drop one or the other. Otherwise, I really like it over my previous rig!
Very timely delivery !!! The spooler itself is everything that I needed and then some !!! I am going on my annual fishing trip in less than a month, so I changed my line on all six of my reels. It took more time to take the old line off than it did to re-spool... Six reels in less than thirty minutes. The true test will come on September 21st when we hit the first lake. The simplicity is exactly what I needed.
