7 Reasons Anglers Are Switching Their Braid to Beyond Braid

From bass guides on the St. Johns to inshore anglers chasing bull reds, here's what changed when they re-spooled — and why most of them aren't going back.

Blackout

Blackout 8X No Fade — one of the lines anglers keep coming back for.

1

Every line broke exactly at its rated pound test — on the IGFA's own machine

Most braid strength ratings come from the manufacturer and nobody else. Beyond Braid took its line to the International Game Fish Association Fishing Hall of Fame and ran it on a $50,000 tensile breaking-strength machine.

The result: every line broke exactly at its rated pound test. That matters more than it sounds. When the spool says 30lb, you can set your drag like it means 30lb — not guess, and not find out the hard way at the boat.

It's true 8 strand at every pound test — not just the heavy stuff

Plenty of popular braids switch construction by strength, using a flatter 4-strand weave at lighter tests. The 8X series is eight tightly woven PE fibers from 8lb all the way to 100lb.

Eight strands weave rounder and tighter, so the line is thinner for its strength, lays better on the spool and runs slicker through your guides. 20lb 8X measures 0.20mm — about the diameter of 6lb mono.

No Fade color that can't bleed onto your hands or wash out in the sun

You know the drill: new braid looks great for a few trips, then goes chalky grey and leaves color on your fingers. The No Fade lines are made from fibers dyed at the source — there's no surface coating to bleed or fade.

"Usually you start seeing dye come off on your hands with other braids. Not this line! Have not seen any bleeding."— Joseph T., verified buyer, 30lb Blackout 8X

Thinner, slicker line means longer casts and fewer wind knots

A fluoropolymer coating cuts friction through the guides, so the line flies farther and stays quieter on the cast. Low memory means it comes off the spool clean instead of in loops and bird's nests.

And because braid is roughly half the diameter of mono at the same strength, you fit more line on the same reel and cut through wind instead of ballooning in it.

"I can cast so much better and smoother and it's very durable compared to others I've used. 8x braid is the way to go."— Isaiah B., verified buyer

There's a color built for the water you actually fish

With 15+ colors, you can match the line to the conditions instead of settling for whatever's on the shelf:

  • Moss Camo — blends into grass and dark, tannic water.
  • Blue Wave — disappears in clear blue water.
  • Blackout — hardest color to pick out in stained water and at night.
  • Miami Vibe — changes color every 10 yards so you always know how much line is out.
6

It's premium braid without the premium price

Name-brand premium braid commonly runs $35–$47 for 300 yards at retail. Beyond Braid's 8X series starts around $26 for the same 300 yards, and the 4-strand line starts around $23.

Filling several reels? The 2,000-yard bulk spools are the lowest cost per yard Beyond Braid makes.

"I've tried them all and Beyond is the only braid that I trust on my Curados. At half the price of normal braid you can't go wrong."— Stephen H., verified buyer

Questions anglers ask before switching

Should I get 4 strand or 8 strand?

8X is thinner for the same test, slicker through the guides and casts farther — the pick for spinning gear, light lures and distance. 4X weaves flatter, is a little grabbier on rock and shell, and is easier on the wallet when filling several reels.

What pound test should I choose?

8–15lb for trout, panfish and finesse; 20–30lb for bass and all-around freshwater; 30–50lb for inshore; 50–65lb for heavy inshore and light offshore; 80lb and up for offshore. Most anglers step up from the mono test they used to run and still gain casting distance.

Do I need backing?

Braid is slick enough to spin on a bare spool. Lay down a short mono or fluoro backing, or wrap electrical tape around the arbor first, then spool under steady tension.

What knot should I use?

The FG knot is the strongest and thinnest for braid to leader. A double uni with 6–8 wraps per side works well under 30lb. Wet every knot before you cinch it.

What if I don't love it?

Every order is covered by a 30-day return policy — return it for a full refund or exchange.
